Step Up Home Tuition was established in 2006 to provide in-home learning for children in years 1 to11 who were failing to reach their full learning potential.
Research has shown that in the average classroom, children may get at most only two to three minutes of undivided attention a day. Large class sizes, an expanding curriculum and behavioural problems limit the amount of one to one time, which may result in apathy towards school.
With this in mind, Christchurch teacher Ralph Murray formed Step Up. He knew these problems could be overcome with a one to one programme which focuses on the specific needs of the student.

Step Up aims to release the potential of primary level students through high quality home tuition. Step Up is also dedicated to providing a premier one to one tutoring service conforming to the highest ethical and professional standards. Step Up tutors are trained teachers and must have a full or provisional registration from the New Zealand Teachers Council. As well as having relevant qualifications, Step Up tutors must be good communicators, able to form patient, supportive relationships with their students.
